Socktober

It’s officially autumn: the season of cosying up indoors, chunky knit blankets, and of course warm and toasty socks.

When you’re reaching into your sock drawer, the last thing you want to find is pair of socks with a hole in. With darker evenings providing the perfect excuse to hibernate at home, take the opportunity to have a sort through the socks you’ve inevitably amassed over the years…

If you’ve got 5 minutes, let’s get stuck in!

  1. Begin by emptying your socks onto your bed. An empty drawer means you’ll be able to see how much space you’ve got to use, or whether your socks might actually be better stored elsewhere.
  2. Begin pairing up any single socks and put stray odd socks to one side. Create a pile for socks that you don’t wear anymore: if they’re beginning to get threadbare, have holes in, or just aren’t your style anymore—put them on the pile. Whether you’re a millennial or Gen Z might decide on your thoughts around keeping ankle socks however… (we’ll be keeping ours!).
  3. From the keep-pile of socks, divide these into categories. We like simple categories such as everyday wear, sports, and cosy.
  4. It’s time to sort through the throw-pile. If socks are threadbare or have holes in, they can head to a recycling point for fabrics. However, if the socks just aren’t for you but they’re of good quality, consider donating these to a local charity who need clothes.
  5. When putting your socks back in the wardrobe, prioritise being able to see your socks easily when opening the drawer. This prevents rifling through the socks, keeping the ones you need every day at the top and cosier ones within easy reach after a long day.

How you fold your socks is up to you… help us decide on the debate between sock bunny and sock ball fold over on Instagram!
