People Operations & Effectiveness Lead
At Hammonds Furniture, we are a family-run business that specialises in fitted furniture and tailored storage solutions. With over 20 showrooms nationwide, we are dedicated to providing exceptional service and innovative designs to our customers. Our vision is to create well-ordered homes, and we believe our furniture has the power to transform living spaces.
If you are an agile, organised HR generalist who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, thrives with autonomy, and wants to be at the heart of a People & Culture team that’s actively evolving, this role could be for you.
This isn’t about job titles or rigid career paths. It’s about how you think, how you work, and how you show up for a team and the business during moments that matter most.
The opportunity
You will sit at the centre of our People & Culture function; strengthening operational rhythm, supporting peaks in recruitment and employee relations, and ensuring we deliver a full, joined-up People service to ourselves and the wider business.
Part of your role will be ensuring People data and systems are accurate, clear and practical; helping the team and business make better decisions and work more effectively. This is a non-HRIS environment, so you will design simple, effective solutions using Microsoft tools to support insight and delivery.
Above all, you will bring structure where it’s needed, flexibility where it counts, and energy that helps the team operate at its best. You’ll be trusted with autonomy, encouraged to challenge constructively, and given the space to make a real difference.
This is a role for someone who enjoys making things work — not just designing them.
Who we’re really looking for
You will come from HR, People Operations, or a generalist People role, titles matter less than mindset. You are someone who:
-
Thrives in ambiguity and change, and enjoys creating order without over-engineering
-
Is adaptable, organised, and calm under pressure, particularly during peak times
-
Takes ownership naturally and follows things through to completion
-
Enjoys being the connective tissue; enabling others, spotting gaps, and quietly making things better
-
Is confident supporting across recruitment, operations and employee relations, and comfortable ensuring systems and data support the team
-
Learns quickly, asks good questions, and challenges in a thoughtful, constructive way
-
Values team success over individual spotlight and takes pride in full-service delivery
You don’t need to know everything on day one, we care far more about how you learn, prioritise and adapt.
This role will suit you if…
-
You enjoy being relied on rather than directed
You are comfortable without perfect processes and have a continuous improvement mindset
-
You like being the person who connects the dots
-
You care about how teams feel and how work gets done
-
You take pride in accurate, well-structured People data and practical, usable systems
