Why did you choose Hammonds?
"Design acumen, construction of the wardrobes and the style options. We knew we didn’t want a foil-wrapped solution as it wouldn’t have suits the character of the room or the house as a whole and following our consultation with Hammonds we felt that their understanding of the peculiarities of the room itself and their ability to offer a bespoke angle on the design to maximise the feeling of space and optimising natural light chimed directly with our goals for the room."
What was the space like before you had the transformation?
"It was bland but with good levels of natural light. Odd angles that couldn’t be obviated with a DIY off the shelf solution meant we felt we had to work with a company that catered to designing for the room rather than just offering a rigid set of products."
How would you describe your interior style?
"Neutral, millennial classic, considered and intelligent."
Is organisation important to you? If so, why?
"Absolutely. Living in an old house we had become used to a ‘make the best of what there is’ mentality which resulted in clothes and accessories being stored in inappropriate settings. This has a knock-on effect on our engagement with the space and our use of the rooms and their fitted features. Incorporating organisation solutions into the dressing room design saves us time, eases utility (when it comes to putting clothes away, cleaning and maintaining the clothes and space) and means we aren’t mentally battling with remembering where things should go and how we should store them - there is no more ‘oh that drawer needs a jiggle’ or ’that hanging rail is 10cm too short for that dress’. Making wardrobes ‘for the space’ has allowed the house and its quirks to be celebrated rather than resented. "
What is the best thing about your new space?
"Alex loves the supremely stylish linen press draw fronts. I think that the integrated lighting just transforms the room entirely, again accentuating the unique aspects of the room which gives it that 'one of a kind’, tailored to us, feel. "
How has your furniture had a positive impact on your life?
"It may seem quite a broad or grand thing to say, but, even though they have only been 'in' for a short while, we both feel less stressed. We now take pride in where we store our clothes and so the space is tidier, which means we feel calmer, less rushed and cluttered. Also, rather than just being a vessel for clothes and shoe storage, the wardrobes are now a celebrated design feature in the room. They enhance the house as a whole which brings us so much joy."
